There are likely no two words in design that conjure up a more romantic image than “French Country”. Vineyards and wine, lavender fields and wild flowers, ancient stone walkways full of history and soft golden light – This is French Country.
French Country homes were most commonly made from exposed limestone natural to the area, with exposed beams and soft stucco pallets faded by years of sun. A high pitched or hip roof, crushed limestone driveways and a central entrance are the building blocks of French Country.
In Costal France bright blue shutters, ( a reflection of the blue fishing boats ) wild flowers, and window boxes full of color are a classic. The South of France is known for sunny yellows, soft golds, burnt umber’s and fiery reds.
Inside these wonderful homes the soft exposed limestone and wood beams bring the outside in. Mellow terra cotta tiles, age worn stone and parquet wood floors compliment the classic French furnishings. Ladder-back chairs, hand carved floral motifs, painted armoires and pottery, baskets and copper pots are staples of any French Country home. And the fabrics! – french toile’s, classic checks, and washed linens complete the feel.
